Five boys and a Pasty

A TASTY TAKE AWAY There was no finesse to the Fish and Chip supper held recently by the Llanmartin residents - just flakey white cod and chips served from two giant cardboard boxes - although fishing net and lanterns did add some ambience. One thing there was in abundance was plenty of chatting and interaction between friends and neighbours and later with the speaker who was Michael Sheen’s uncle. He spoke about his childhood and their life in Port Talbot when he was a boy. The title was intriguing ‘Five boys and a pastie’. I had visions of boys from yesteryear sitting down in a cornfield to eat their pasties before they sneaked away from harvesting to go skinny dipping in a near by stream

Anyone for cake

At the end of a litter pick in the Old Hamlet of Llanmartin the residents took a break for a well earned drink and cakes. The amount of rubbish collected exceeded even their expectations! Dressed in high vis jackets and with the aid of tongs and bags from the council they said motorists, cyclists and pedestrians gave them a thumbs up. Its a pity therefore that so much rubbish is discarded every single day in every part of the UK. At the Community Garden in the Britain in Bloom exhibit at Hampton Court Flower Show the garden was filled with Litter men so to add their voice to the appalling tons of rubbish the general public toss wherever their fancy takes them they made one of their own. Community Speed Watch

Some of you will have seen the speed watch team on the Magor Road today, next to Church Farm. We have been in discussion with the police about approving this stretch of road for the Community Speed Watch for some time, as so many vehicles travel through the Hamlet at a high speed. We observed over 30 vehicles speeding during 8:30-9:30am this morning, and over 80 vehicles speeding between 4-5pm this afternoon. A list of these will be sent to the police shortly, and all will receive a letter. The fastest vehicle was travelling at 56mph in the 30mph zone.
