Village in Bloom award
The Old Hamlet and Wolfs Castle were both given a silver guilt award in the Wales Blodeuo Gyda's RHS - Cymru awards in the small village category. Congratulations to everyone for all the hard work. Next year however we still want to capture that elusive gold which this year went un-awarded in our category.
Carl and Janet attended the annual prize giving which was held in Prestatyn at the multi million pound redeveloped Nova Leisure Centre The waves crashed on the shoreline outside and the wind made it difficult to walk. A factor which made sense of the wind farm out at sea.
Prior to the ceremony the mayor of Prestatyn accompanied guests on a tour around town on an old red route master double decker.
It included a visit to the remains of an old roman bath house.
The town being an important settlement during those times as lead was mined here for use in near by Chester. Over 10% was found to be silver making it very desirable. Many towns like Prestatyn have seen difficult times but lately it has been encouraged by new developments and like many other towns is looking to provide sustainable planting in place of annual blooms due to budget reductions.
